On Friday morning 22nd June 24 teams from Sussex and beyond converged on Waterloo Square suitcases bulging with wet gear and bowls all set to battle the dire weather predicted by the Met.Office, although we were given an envelope with all instructions for the day, people milled around an already harassed Dave Batcock with all sorts of questions. Finally we settled down to a welcome speech from Dave and from the Mayor of Bognor Regis Mr. Don Eldridge who rolled the first wood.
The sun shone, copious cups of coffee, cans of pop and glasses of beer were consumed all before lunch.
Waterloo Square buzzed with conversation and laughter-teams discussed match strategy whilst players on the sidelines watched the line of the rink they were waiting to play on hopping to gain an advantage over their next opponents - and still the sun shone.
Late afternoon after the last wood had been played, the green cleared and bags packed, we converged to the RAFA club for a buffet and presentation of prizes by the Mayor and his wife Helen. Winning teams were

1st Team I 'Holleyhock's' Fred & Jean Holley - Ray Fulbrook - Paddy Walsh.
As we said our fond farewells and thanked one another for a lovely day, the sun still shone so much for weather forecasting!
