Bognor Regis Bowls Club 2011 Season
Welcome back to sunny Bognor! Our 2011 season started sunny and bright, and yes the green was heavy and narrow but that's what the new season is all about, having to adjust to the vagaries of the great outdoors green rather than being indoors and just bowling to the marker on the next rink and waiting forever whilst the wood swings.
Unfortunately our present President Terry Rexstrew was unable to be with us on our first match but our Vice President Eileen Tooley had the pleasure of putting up the first wood of the season, and a great job she did of that, getting straight onto the jack.
Whilst only one or two of our ladies were brave enough to don white shorts the majority of our men took the opportunity of showing of their legs in their new bowling shorts. I am sure this was only because they had been on a touring holiday to Portugal and had the advantage of getting a tan prior to the start of the season.
We are looking forward to playing our friends Croydon, M.O. on the 9th June at their club, the Mazda Open on the 17th June and a visit from South Cambridgeshire Bowling Association on the 21st June when we shall be putting out 8 rinks. Another 8 rink game being played on the 2nd July will be against Grays tourers from Essex, this time supporting one of RAFA's fixtures.
We have a very full fixture list again this year with friendly matches, leagues, Opens and internal club competitions. Will we fit them all in? Will we be fit enough to last the course? Of course we will. We are Bognor Regis Bowling Club!
End of 2010 Season's, Report from our Captain.
Another fine season for Bognor bowls club, congratulations to Beryl and all the ladies on winning their league. The men achieved their goal and will play in division one in the summer of 2011, many thanks to you all on a great season of bowling.
In our first season in the BML we finished third, well done to everyone, the league gave the opportunity for new bowlers to play in competitive games and they all preformed excellently.
The Club enjoyed some wonderful days of bowling and our visits to Southampton and Croydon were most memorable, with music and singing on our return from Croydon, thanks to Keith and his bugle.
Thanks to Alma, Terry and all who serve on the committee, their hard work means the club is run professionally and we can all enjoy Bognor Bowls club.
Of all the days I spent a Waterloo square this year, the finals were most memorable, congratulations to everyone who took part and thanks to Val and Peter for organising the days events.
The dinner dance was well attended and most enjoyable thanks to Val for her hard work and the management committee for organising this event, the display of trophies was most impressive thanks to Barbara and Peter.
The season of 2011 sees a big intake of new members and good bowlers, we extend a warm welcome to them all and I am sure that they will add greatly to Bognor bowls club. The men's section will have two teams in the Littlehampton and Gazette league, your continued support to fulfill these extra fixtures will be much appreciated.
Winter well and I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday 23rd April at Waterloo square for our opening game of the 2011 season.
