Welcome to the Home page of Bognor Regis Bowls Club
The seasons’ opening day was blessed with fine weather and an excellent turnout. First wood as is customary was bowled by the Bognor Town mayor, councillor Don Eldridge, and finished close to the jack. Perhaps this is “an omen for the season”? Possible we will all follow this example.
We are pleased to welcome some new players to the men’s team, rather less to the ladies. We also lost a number of players to other teams but wish them well with their new clubs and hope that they continue to enjoy their bowling.
Unfortunately our long standing Coach Stan Collison has passed away and we will miss his input to the new bowlers. As one to whom he taught the skills and etiquette on the green I know that this aspect of a club’s activity is vitally important. This coaching applied not only to new bowlers who chose to join the Club but also to anyone wishing to take up this wonderful sport. We all wish more, young and old, would take up the sport, bowls like many outdoor sports is slightly in decline in numbers.
New coloured shirts will be worn by the men’s league team this year sponsored by a local business “Reynolds”, another new venture for which we as a club are grateful.
For the men’s section competitions, a new handicap system is being introduced making the recognised better players have to work a little harder to reach the finals. This also should give a greater incentive to those on lower handicaps and make for closer, more enjoyable matches. We all are aware that on their day almost any player can win on a single match basis. Don’t we wish that those days when it all seems to go right for us would come along a little more often!
GOOD FORTUNE TO ALL OUR BOWLERS, I HOPE THAT YOU HAVE A MOST ENJOYABLE SEASON, and that Bognor’s good sunshine record continues this summer.
