Welcome to Bognor Regis Finals Gallery 2009
BOGNOR REGIS BOWLS CLUB
FINALS
The finals commenced on Thursday afternoon 3rd September due to some competitors having to play in finals that could not be accommodated with-in the two official days Friday and Saturday. There were two games on Thursday, the women’s 4321 Cup between Barbara Reardon and Penny Jones, Barbara being the victor on this occasion. The second final was the Consolation Cup between Michael Philpott and Ron Bobbett, Ron being the victor on this occasion.
Friday began with the sun shining and the green was in very good condition thanks to the gentleman who prepared it for us. The green was playing from east to west on both days which is better for both competitors and spectators.
The Ladies' Pairs between Captain Beryl Charlesworth and Barbara Reardon vs. Rita Waddock and Jane Taylor. After very good bowling from both teams they went into the last end and on this occasion Beryl and Barbara were the victors.
The men’s 4321 between Tommy Gaskin & Captain Ned Waddock, Ned being the victor on this occasion.
The Men’s Pair's handicap was contested between David Parker and Michael Philpott vs Alan Knight and Arthur Richardson. After a very good tight game David and Michael became victors.
Friday afternoon started with the Veterans Cup between Tommy Gaskin and Tony Mussel, Tony becoming the winner this year. The men’s championship pairs was between John Christensen and Brian Wilkinson vs. Ron Gardner and Peter Lillford. John and Brian the victors. Well played by all.
The ladies handicap pairs between Barbara Reardon & Alma Harrison vs. Beryl Charlesworth & Ann Parry. Beryl and Ann the victors.
Sunshine greeted us on Saturday and to start the day with the Men's Singles handicap between David Parker vs. Arthur Harrison, a very entertaining game with Arthur in front of our county bowler David who then reminded everyone that it was no good being ahead in a marathon and then the ultimate last end when Arthur was holding all four shots, when David's last wood got an outrageous wick which sailed into the head and gave David the last shot to become victor this year.
Mixed pairs final was between Barbara Reardon and Dickie Dalton vs. Penny Jones and Ted Love. A very good tight game right down to the last wood from Dickie who became victor with Barbara.
The ladies Championship was won by Barbara Reardon with Alma Harrison the Runner up.
The Men's Championship was won by Arthur Richardson with Tommy Gaskin the Runner up.
My thanks to umpire Reg Avent from Arundel for attending taking over from Peter Lillford while he played his competition. Thanks to Peter for preparing and arranging the finals, for looking after the competition sheets with Barbara Reardon during the season. This is no mean feat.
For the very able photographer Dave Jackson. For all markers and scoreboard turners and those who ‘dressed’ the rinks ready for play.
My thanks also to Brian in the cashiers office for being very patient. A big thank you to every spectator who supported the competitors during the three days of action.
Last but not least I must say a very big thank you to my very able Vice President Terry Rexstrew for all his help and support during the last three days.
President Alma
